Supporting People Facing Barriers to Employment
In a quest to help those who face barriers to employment, we have partnered with two incredible charities, Back on Track and Springboard, to launch the Arc Academy; an action-packed four week course that will equip participants with all the essential skills and knowledge to enjoy a successful career in hospitality.
Completely free to attend, each session will cover a different topic and has been planned out parallel to the traditional job search; combining a mixture of practical and educational activities, participants will be able to learn transferable skills beneficial to any career path. All we ask is that those who enrol into the Academy must attend every session.
The Academy is a core pillar within the company’s Impact Strategy which drives its vision “to shape the world of flexible work into a better place for all”.
The first session focuses largely on the variety of career paths people can take within the hospitality and customer service industry, highlighting the power of transferable skills. We will map out your dream career and how to get there, considering every journey is unique.
The second session is the most practical one, with training on hospitality techniques such as drinks service, order taking and carrying three plates. At the end of the session, delegates should feel comfortable serving customers and understanding hospitality terms.
After exploring the roles on offer in the hospitality industry, the Academy will focus on how people can establish and develop their key skills and feel confident in pitching them to other people. This session will talk delegates through the job search, educate them on how to succeed with Arc job application, interview questions and give them practical tips to maintain a strong mindset amidst any knockbacks they may experience.
The final session focuses on what people can expect when they are on the job. The type of environments they might work in, how to react in certain situations and who to go to if they experience issues. It will also cover presentation in the workplace and delve into non-verbal and verbal communication so delegates can gain an awareness of how they affect others around them.
After successful completion of the Arc Academy, participants may be invited to join Arc as one of our team members.
“Two years ago I got diagnosed with a severe dissociative and anxiety disorder and didn’t think I’d be able to work more than once a week, especially when I had to meet new people every shift. Arc helped me regain that confidence when I joined the team last year and the more shifts I took on, because of the flexibility I had with setting my own hours and on the job training, the less scary it got. Now I work two jobs that I love that I got using transferable skills I learnt from Arc! I would definitely recommend them!”

“Back on Track is a Manchester-based charity that provides community learning and support to adults who are experiencing multiple disadvantages. At Back on Track, we had the opportunity to work with Arc during the time that they were designing and developing the new Academy offer. We were able to make suggestions and question certain decisions or ways of doing things, as well as highlight the barriers that our learners regularly experience when trying to access training opportunities. It was really encouraging to see their openness to having their thoughts challenged, and their commitment to recognise people for their skills and potential. On a personal note, this showed me what can be achieved when there is a will to make a difference. Their dedication was clear from the outset and made for a great collaboration!”
