Rachel’s New Role

Hello Rachel! Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I joined the wonderful team at Arc as Head of Operations in November 2020, in a very different time and business to what we have now!

Previous to working at Arc, I worked for a client of ours within the ‘staffing’ department, now known as ‘People Operations’, across a number of sports venues in the UK for 8 years. Starting out at the Jockey Club in the East region, before taking the leap and moving to London to work at Twickenham.

Following a spell travelling, I worked at Madejski Stadium in Reading and then Wimbledon AELTC – with lots of amazing opportunities to support other events and venues across the UK in between.

This position is a totally new one for Arc, can you describe just how important compliance is for our type of business?

It’s no.1. Security for all – whether that be mitigating risks to the company, employee’s, team members, our clients. Without robust compliance, it exposes all stakeholders to financial, personal, safety and reputational damages.

For such a ‘small’ company, we have an incredible outreach with the high volume of Team Members and the high-profile clients we work with, where there can be up to 92,000 guests attending. Thus, meaning we could be impacting hundreds of thousands of people across the UK on a busy weekend!

Compliance is at the centre of what we do which embodies all 3 of our values. We ‘care’ about all our stakeholders and protecting them. We’re ‘honest’ and face up to the facts of having water-tight compliance as we recognise the necessity of it. We ‘deliver’ this level of compliance throughout our business.

What do you like best about working for Arc?

The people! I know it’s cheesy, but the team at Arc is genuinely like no other. They’re top-performers, delivering amazing results and each character makes coming to work FUN. In the fast-paced, high-pressure environment we thrive in it’s important to have a laugh at the same time and feel supported by your peers – that’s what I love best about working at Arc.

What do you like best about your new role?

I’m enjoying the challenge of doing a lot of ‘firsts’. Having the opportunity to learn new things every day; as well as not being too far from all the operational action.

Highlights include seeing the improvements across the business as we input processes to maintain high levels of compliance in every aspect of the company whilst we grow. The engagement of the team, with what could be deemed the ‘boring bits’, has been very rewarding as we build a passionate compliance culture.

Are you working on anything exciting over the next few months?

We have lots of projects underway such as reviewing and updating all of our GDPR compliance and have partnered with a new and amazing DPO.

We will hopefully be finalising the purchase of Arc’s first property and arranging renovations and the move in London. Hampton has taken on the role of Pawject & Property Manager as he helps out with us going through the process!

What are the top three destinations/experiences on your bucket list?

  • A cricket tour in the West Indies
  • A Lions rugby tour in New Zealand
  • An overwater villa in the Maldives

If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

2003 World Cup Final to be there as Jonny kicked the winning drop goal!

What’s the best series that you’ve ever watched?

Broadchurch

What song best describes your Arc experience?

Location – Burna Boy – I can just hear Beth singing it now!

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

Enjoy watching sport, preferably at a live venue with some pals! After a long walk with Hampton.

If Hampton was a human, what would his job be and why?

A judge!
